Before I started really getting serious about financial independence, I was saving about $700 a month. That was the amount going to my IRA ($455) and my 401(k) ($245). Since I started planning my budget, tracking my spending, and putting it all out here for you to read, I’ve started saving more! The Trojan helmet below was one of my first ever “piggy banks.” I think I had one more before it, but for as long as I remember, this was my bank. I’m no longer physically storing money in it, but the Trojan Bank will be represented with the additional savings* I’ve accumulated.  I’m really excited to see it grow as I save each month!

*Additional = any savings over the $700 per month I was saving prior to starting my budget.
